On July 13th I had the honor of opening for my friend Sarah Peacock at Red Clay Theatre (Eddie Owen Presents) in Duluth, GA. This place has got to be one of the best rooms for live music in the country! Seriously. I love this stage. More importantly, I love the people who are behind RCT. Eddie Owen has become a good friend over the past few years. He threw several opportunities my way when I was first trying to find my way in the Atlanta music scene, including an opening slot for The Civil Wars the first time they played at Eddie's Attic. Eddie cares about live music and it is evident in everything he does.

So, I am absolutely thrilled to release these six songs and not only give you acoustic versions of some of my songs you've heard on previous albums, but to display what an awesome-sounding room (which comes from an awesome culture that values live music) we have in Georgia. If you've never been to a show at Red Clay Theatre, you simply must. #lifeisinthesong

I hope you like these videos. Please share it. Six original songs, performed live, just me and a piano (a beautiful Hailun), at Red Clay Theatre.

And stay tuned! These recordings will soon be available on iTunes and many other online music stores.

Cheers!
-Kurt

Feeling Discouraged?

Feeling Discouraged?

Feeling discouraged?

So am I.

I mean, by the time you read this I might not be feeling this way. Actually, by the time I finish writing this blog I could be completely optimistic and positive, wondering why I am even writing this post. Discouragement is a feeling, and feelings are more temporary than Facebook's privacy settings.

My point is that it doesn't really matter how you feel (well, it kinda does, but...), what matters is that you push through that. I heard recently that your actions are like the engine of a train and your feelings are like the cars dragging behind. Don't trust your feelings to lead you. Rather, do what it is you know you need to do, and your feelings will follow.

Please note that I am not telling you to disregard your feelings altogether. But, don't let them dictate your actions. Let your actions dictate your feelings. Feel what you feel, but in the midst of discouragement and weariness press on. Move forward.

“Of course motivation is not permanent. But then, neither is bathing; but it is something you should do on a regular basis.” ― Zig Ziglar

My one word for 2013 is "do". No matter what I am feeling, I have committed to taking action. Now, I am not claiming that I have become a task-accomplishing machine. In fact, if I can be completely honest, I have failed this 2013 mantra more than I have succeeded. But, I haven't given up. And that is the key. Don't give up.

Don't give up.

Feeling discouraged? Most people stop just before a major breakthrough. Don't give up.

Don't give up.

FEATURED FRIEND FRIDAY: Kevin Rowe

FEATURED FRIEND FRIDAY: Kevin Rowe
May 17, 2013

Happy Friday!

Today, I want to give a shout out to Kevin Rowe. Kevin is a British singer/songwriter who is now based in Atlanta, GA. I met Kevin a couple years ago and, well, this guy has got "it". He is a fellow pianist, too, so his cool points are through the roof. :)

Kevin Rowe has some very awesome tings in the works, including some new music! I am excited for that! Hopefully we will be hearing new songs from him soon. For now, go listen to his previously-released stuff. It does not suck. I hope you will check him out and follow along with his journey. He's got a great story!

Brandon has been a friend of mine for several years now, and he has some cool things going on. He is not only a skilled singer/songwriter, but his eye for photography has kept him busy as well. It seems like he is always working on a new project or releasing something exciting. Brandon is energetic and enthusiastic and it definitely comes through in his art.

Brandon's sound is comparable to Jack Johnson or Paul Simon, but he's definitely got a unique style. Check out his music, and if you ever get the chance, go see him live. He performs all around Atlanta pretty frequently. He also does private events, so if you need a singer/guitarist for your next party...

Procrastination

Procrastination
May 1, 2013
www.kurtscobie.com/blogs

During my senior year of high school my classmates voted me as the "biggest procrastinator" in one of those silly senior surveys. At the time, I was just proud to get some recognition for something I was "good at". Well, these days I am not so proud of that "biggest procrastinator" title. I am doing all I can to accomplish what I need/want to accomplish by the deadlines I set.

If I can be completely honest, I don't think I have improved in this area. On a recent podcast I was listening to, Chris LoCurto and Rory Vaden were talking about this subject and I was reminded, once again, that this is something I need to work on. The following quote sums it up their conversation.

"Easy short-term choices lead to difficult long-term consequences. Meanwhile, difficult short-term choices lead to easy long-term consequences." -Rory Vaden

I'm not sure what came over me. Last night, I felt like I was missing out on all the fun, and I downloaded it. I gave in. I was so proud of myself for resisting it for so long but in a matter of about 38 seconds, I undid everything I had worked for.

I am... (sigh)... on Instagram.

I finally caved. I can hardly believe it this morning. I hope I don't regret it. I'm scared. Feeling a little vulnerable. What if people don't like my photos? What if I turn into one of those people who posts all the time? What if... I... like it?

So many questions! So much at stake!

Wish me luck on this new journey. And if you have any Insta-tips (see what I did there?) feel free to help me out.

Everyone needs to know Avi Wisnia.

I have known Avi for a couple years now and I had the honor of performing with him at the Tin Angel in Philadelphia recently. This guy is talented! I know I say this in every FFF post, but... you NEED to go check out this Philly singer-songwriter. He's just so... good. AND he is a piano-player, so he gets extra points in my book.

So... yeah. Avi is awesome. Check him out!
